Enrollment & Strategic Initiatives (ESI) at the University of Wisconsin-Stout is seeking a First Year Experience (FYE) Director to coordinate and provide leadership for the successful conceptualization and implementation of an integrated first-year experience program for the university. This position will facilitate and support student-centered retention initiatives through the First Year Experience (FYE) program.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum/Required

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in education, business, counseling or a related field.  
  • Three years in higher education with direct experience in the development and implementation of FYE curriculum and programs, orientation programs, and academic support services.
  • Experience with supervision of staff.
  • Excellent written communication, verbal communication, and facilitation/training skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship, communication, and social media skills. 
  • Ability to work in collaboration with various representatives from university departments and the community.
  • Demonstrated efforts of collaboration and working effectively with various campus constituencies.

Highly Desired/Preferred

  • Experience leading the management and implementation of a complex grant-related project with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience with curriculum development and instruction.
  • Experience analyzing student success data and tracking progress on student success metrics.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide leadership and university coordination for partners involved in the development and implementation of all FYE Program activities. Coordination includes and is not limited to:
    • Organization, scheduling, implementation, and evaluation of the FYE program. Evaluation includes assessment, data collection and analysis in alignment with university SEP and Title III grant metrics
    • Chairing of an inclusive co-curricular & curricular FYE Committee that provides regular updates to shared governance and other stakeholders as identified
    • Working with a FYE Faculty Fellow to develop and implement academic-focused first-year student success strategies 
  • Collaborate and coordinate with academic affairs and student affairs to implement effective courses and services that support first year student success
  • Maintain and enhance early intervention strategies for first-year students through extensive interaction and collaboration within the Student Life & Services, Enrollment and Strategic Initiatives (ESI) department and Academic Affairs
  • Participate in FYE program related meetings with key committees and work groups
  • Complete and submit annual program action plans, reviews, and Annual Performance Reports
  • Maintain an understanding of current ideas, research and practices pertaining to the areas of responsibility for this position, through continued study and participation in professional development
  • Monitor budget and expenditures
  • Supervise and conduct performance evaluations of assigned staff
  • Perform other related responsibilities as may be assigned

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

This position will report to the Vice Chancellor of Enrollment & Strategic Initiatives (ESI) with a dotted line reporting to the Dean of Students. The Vice Chancellor's office oversees five departments: Admissions, Advisement Center, Educational Pathways & Outreach, Financial Aid, and Registration & Records. The ESI unit focuses on issues of student enrollment, retention, graduation, and success and is dedicated to improving the student experience. This position will serve on a team of dedicated student services professionals to continue to improve the student experience at UW-Stout.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

Minimum annual starting salary of $62,500, commensurate with qualifications and experience. UW System provides an excellent benefits package including participation in the Wisconsin State retirement plan, demonstrating our commitment to the diverse needs of our employees.
