Custodian - Student Centers
CUSTODIAN – STUDENT CENTERS
Seeking a committed and customer service-oriented person to join the Student Centers custodial team.
This position consists of routine work to maintain the cleanliness and prepare and setup meeting room spaces of Student Centers facilities which include the Memorial Student Center and Merle Price Commons. This position reports to and receives direction and leadership from the Custodial Supervisor. This position requires cleaning functions primarily in the Memorial Student Center on 2nd shift Monday through Friday. Shifts may vary depending operational need and may infrequently, include weekends. Second shift begins at 2:00pm and ends at 10:30pm. This position is full-time, year-round.
ABOUT THE JOB: Custodian (FP019)
Duties include cleaning of meeting rooms and cleaning for lounges, hallways, entryways, and restrooms. This position also prepares event spaces including meeting rooms and large event spaces. Responsibilities include setting up tables, chairs, adding podiums and other requested items to support successful events. Seasonal duties include snow and ice removal from sidewalks, ramps, and steps.
Minimum / Required
- Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, tools, products, and equipment used in providing custodial services
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals consistent with the duties of the position
- Good work habits, such as attendance, punctuality, accountability, thoroughness, and resourcefulness.
- Work independently and as part of a team environment and on collaborative efforts.
- 1 year or more of custodial experience using cleaning chemicals and equipment such as vacuums, sweepers, the operation of a scrubber/buffer and carpet extractor, snow pup, power brush and snow blower.
The minimum starting salary is $ 15.00 per hour. The hourly rate for this position is based on experience and available budget. A six-month probation is required. The UW System provides an excellent benefits package including participation in the Wisconsin State Retirement Plan.

Clean assigned areas in the facility by sweeping, dusting, mopping, scrubbing, buffing, vacuuming, washing surfaces, filling dispensers, moving furniture, emptying trash/recycling/compost receptacles. Other responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, cleaning glass, and sweeping and mopping stairwells.
