The Department of Art & Art History seeks a dynamic comics artist and leader whose primary focus is on narrative-based, traditional and/or digitally produced comics and graphic novels. Secondary focus on foundation courses such as Drawing I & II, 2-Design, and advanced drawing. We seek a passionate and committed colleague who promotes the development of an equitable and inclusive environment. This is an Assistant Professor, tenure-track position beginning August 22, 2022.


  • M.F.A. in Art with an emphasis in Comics, Drawing or equivalent terminal degree in visual arts or digital media
  • Ability to teach on Macintosh in a dual platform environment
  • Two years of industry experience in Comics
  • Evidence of teaching potential


Teach studio courses which may include beginning, intermediate, and advanced Comics classes and foundation courses such as 2-D Design, Drawing I, II, III courses that support art education, animation & digital media, game design/development, graphic design, industrial design, interior design, and studio art. Engage in professional research related to discipline. Provide service to the department, college, university, and professional field on a regular basis. Contribute to a rigorous learning environment with willingness to use traditional, alternative, and digital delivery methods including participation in a laptop teaching and learning environment. Demonstrate organizational skills, collegiality, and leadership skills. Maintain safety expectations in studios. Commitment to undergraduate teaching is necessary. Provide student academic advisement and conduct assessment of student learning. This includes contributing to academic program assessment and continuous improvement processes, in collaboration with faculty and staff. Perform other duties as designated by Chair.


The Department of Art & Art History is a dynamic and thriving community and has a rich tradition at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Our department has BFA concentrations in Comics, Ceramics, Drawing, Painting, Contemporary Sculptural Practices, Printmaking, Art Photography, and Contemporary Art Metals & Jewelry. The adjacent Department of Design includes five BFA programs; the animation, game design and graphic design programs share courses and resources with the Comics cohort. We are NASAD accredited, and the School of Art & Art Design is the largest in the upper Midwest with 1,200+ BFA art and design majors.

  • 20 samples of professional work. Each image should have a caption that corresponds to the image list submitted.
  • If submitting video for professional work, please provide url(s) to YouTube or Vimeo. You may submit up to five videos, and the length of each video may be up to three minutes. Please count each video submitted as one of the 20 images for professional work; meaning that one may only have a combined total of 20 samples for one’s professional work.
  • Image list with brief written descriptions of work

  • Evidence of teaching potential - which may include 10-20 samples with list of student work, sample syllabi, etc.
  • If submitting video for student work, please follow the same format stated for professional work.
